How do I know if I need testing for lead paint?

Homes built prior to 1978 are at a high risk of lead contamination.  Unaware of the extent of health issues caused by lead in paint, paint manufacturers, building material suppliers, and unknowing contractors used paint containing lead on just about everything.  In 1978 the federal government banned the sale and use of paint with lead.  Even with the ban, some houses and materials built post-1978 may contain lead from previously purchased materials.  Dry cracked, flaking and chipping paint on older homes may also be a sign of necessary testing needed.
Lead paint testing is available in Baltimore and surrounding areas.  Not only do we service our beautiful city of Baltimore, we do lead paint testing in Baltimore County, lead testing in Howard County, and lead paint testing in Anne Arundel County.  With many historic properties and beautiful older homes in our area, our goal is to detect lead contamination and help residents and property owners alike enjoy healthy lead-free living.  Maintaining and updating these beautiful homes safely in the Baltimore area can be a challenge.  We work with homeowners and contractors to determine which areas of our buildings need special attention when it comes to lead paint contamination.

Is neglecting lead dangerous?

As health concerns were discovered the US Government an CDC performed studies that uncovered a host of health issues.  This meant of course that the concern was quite great as we learned just how incredibly simple it was to inject a potentially very dangerous and toxic chemical simply by breathing in oxygen. In our own homes and places of occupation, this was quickly realized to be a clear and present danger of present or future risk of COPD and other upper respiratory ailments. Many residents and workers of homes and buildings in which lead paint inspections were either not properly reported and done or were not done at all became ill much later. This unfortunate oversight led to vast health concern prompting a need for lead paint testing in homes and buildings built prior to 1978. This certainly does not completely eliminate the need for lead paint testing in homes built post-1978. The safest possible option when purchasing or planning to reside in a building for long periods of time is to adhere to the standards of accurate lead paint inspection. We want to ensure that any area you may occupy for periods of time is safe, healthy and up to standards and regulations set forth by state laws. Particularly when elderly or small children may reside. Thier upper respiratory systems are far more fragile and susceptible to the toxicity within the walls of a lead paint infected building. The question is really not whether we KNOW we need lead paint testing but that it is actually an integral part of owning a residence or business. There is no price on peace of mind, this is a fact! We expect these things without thinking about them when we are simply in the grocery store or running daily errands. We should be aware of the needs of our health and of the health of others that are occupying the same space. Many signs and symptoms of lead paint exposure can be nearly invisible in early stages. Some may present with a cough, wheeze or constant need for use of an inhaler. Most chalk this up as a simple cold, unfortunately, signs that have masked more severe diagnoses potentially related to lead paint poisoning. For a list of these signs and symptoms, you may visit wedmd.com/COPD. COPD is the most common of manifestation due to lead paint exposure over time. This is certainly why it is imperative to obtain a proper and reliable company to handle the extremely important task of performing your testing for lead. Contact Baltimore Lead Paint Inspection!
